What iGaming Ontario does

iGO is the provincial agency responsible for the commercial conduct and management of online gaming offered through private operators. It enters operating agreements with operators, oversees those agreements and carries out market responsibilities on behalf of Ontario.

Private operators must first register with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), then execute an operating agreement with iGO. Both steps matter. A brand advertising in Ontario is not automatically part of the regulated private-operator market.

How iGO differs from AGCO

AGCO is the regulator. It sets and enforces the Registrar’s Standards for Internet Gaming, registers operators and suppliers, and handles regulatory concerns such as game integrity and compliance. iGO manages the private market through operating agreements and related oversight.

In plain terms: AGCO decides whether an operator meets regulatory requirements; iGO has the commercial agreement that allows a registered private operator to participate in the market. The roles work together, but they are not interchangeable.

Where OLG.ca fits

OLG.ca is operated by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. iGO’s role in the private-operator market does not make it the operator of OLG.ca. This is why a list of iGO-contracted private sites should not be treated as a complete list of every legal Ontario gambling service.

How to check a site

Use iGO’s current operator directory and match the exact site address, not just the brand name. If you are checking a private operator, confirm its presence in the official list and review the site’s terms and player-protection tools. Operator and website counts change, so a saved screenshot or old article can become stale.
